FREE Beginner Bridge Lessons!
ACBL Unit 102 will be offering FREE Introductory Bridge Classes starting in October 2025. Classes will run for 10 weeks (skipping Thanksgiving week). This lesson program is a joint effort of the bridge clubs in Sarasota and Manatee counties to teach the game we all love.
Classes conducted by knowledgeable instructors will be offered at these two locations for your convenience:
Intercity Bridge Club (Sarasota)
Lesson days are on Mondays starting Monday, 6 October, from 10:15 am – 12:00 noon each day for 10 weeks.
Bradenton Bridge Association (Oneco)
Lesson days are on Tuesdays starting Tuesday, 7 October, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am each day for 10 weeks.
These beginner classes are for those who have never played bridge but want to learn. This is PROGRESSIVE learning program so attendance from the beginning is very important.
The curriculum is based on the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) Introduction to Bridge. You will be asked to purchase from Amazon a $10 manual entitled ACBL Intro to Bridge Series 1 Student Manual. This manual will be a very helpful reference throughout the lesson program.

The class dates and subject matter for this education program will be as follows. Please keep in mind that the same lesson will be taught at both bridge clubs each week so you can attend either club on their respective days (Mondays at Intercity Bridge Club and Tuesdays at Bradenton Bridge Association).
Class 1 (October 6/7): Understanding the Basics
This course starts at the very beginning with learning the goal of the game and how to play (e.g. bidding, trick taking and scoring) including simple play strategies and the basics of bidding based on American Standard 5-Card.
Class 2 (October 13/14): Improving Play
Class 3 (October 20/21): Counting Winners / Planning Line of Play
Class 4 (October 27/28): Taking Tricks with Trump
Class 5 (November 3/4): Opening the Bidding
Class 6 (November 10/11): Evaluating a Hand / Responding to 1-Level Minor Openings
Class 7 (November 17/18): Responding to 1-Level Major Openings / Responding to NT
Class 8 (December 1/2): Rebidding by Opener
Class 9 (December 8/9): Rebidding by Responder
Class 10 (December 15/16): Overcalling & Advancing
